Dear Participants and supporters of ElifMaayFest Conference,

alif m 2 (2)On behalf of the organizing committee of ElifMaayFest, I want to take this opportunity to thank participants and supporters of the conference. The conference brought together a large number of professional scholars, civil society organizations, politicians, youth and ordinary Somali Canadians and representatives of both Canadian government and Somalia who came from Europe, USA, Canada and from Baidoa, Somalia, to discuss daring issues on Somalia’s multiculturalism which is vital to Somalia’s future stability.

I do believe that the conference deliberated fully on an essential undertakings necessary to cross the Somali political Rubicon in order to advance towards establishing a more coherent political system conducive to accommodating and tolerating all Somali languages and cultures.

I would like to thank Dr. Mohamed Nuh Ali, Dr. Lee V. Cassanelli, Dr. Mohamed Hussein Moallim, Dr. Mohamud Hassan Tani, Dr. Mohamed Kassim, Dr. Dahabo Farah Hassan, Dr. Subeida M. Mukhtar, Dr. Barlin H. Ali, Mr. Ahmed Osman Mohamed, Mr. Abdi Madey Sheikh, Ms. Hamdi Aden, for the powerful and enlightening presentations they made to the conference.

Of course, the conference wouldn’t have taken such a positive shape without the media coverage that was provided by a cohort of Somali media outlets led by Liban Hussein of Maay TV/SNT, the first ever Maay TV established in North America and beyond. My sincere thanks and gratitude goes also to Mohamed Hassan of Somali Channel,  Yasin Abicar of Daafeet.com, Muuse Kulow of Radio Alif, and Mahamed Dahir Muqalka Somalida of Toronto. The above outlets made the conference proceedings live throughout the world, and indeed, made the voice of the conference heard loud and clear fresh from the press.

My special gratitude goes to the Maay women cohort who sponsored the generous lunch and dinner with live music and entertainment for the conference participants.
