Somalia’s new parliament met in Mogadishu on Monday (September 24th) for the first time since lawmakers elected President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on September 10th.

The session was attended by 200 of parliament’s 275 members, with two new lawmakers sworn in before the legislature, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported. Mogadishu Mayor Mohamed Ahmed Nur, who is also a selected member of parliament, has not been sworn in and was given 30 days to appear.

Lawmakers discussed the formation of parliamentary sub-committees and personal security provision. The parliament also condemned the assassination of lawmaker Mustaf Haji Mohamed and the killings of journalists and civilians.
