Mogadishu — A senior Somali government military commander was killed in the latest fighting between the government soldiers and Al-shabab militants which took place Sunday in Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia, an official said.
General Mohamed Ibrahim Farah better known as (Gordan),Commander of sector five was assassinated in an ambush attack by Al shabab militants at El Waregow area near the port city of Marko, some 100 Km south of Mogadishu, according to military sources.
The attack was said to be fiercest since the allied forces moved in the region two months ago as the rival sides used heavy and light weapons during the deadly ambush attack on Govt. military convoy by the insurgents.
Al shabab, which formally merged to Al Qaeda early this year, has not commented on the murder of Gen. Gordan so far.
